Coaching Through Focusing

Psychotherapy not the right fit for you? Inner Relationship Focusing is a gentle technique that can be used outside of a therapeutic relationship with clients, friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances. It is a powerful tool that does not require the telling of personal narrative or diving into history that can often result in feelings of reliving traumatic experiences. Focusing can be started with an issue to focus on or can begin with the felt sense alone. Clients can be guided or lead in by their companion or the focuser can simply talk themselves deeper into their felt sense experience.

Rustic Beach Path

First learned in my own body, this technique helps to develop greater awareness and compassion within our bodies and felt sense states. I, as the companion, am the guide for the focuser. I utilize reflections and other techniques that help the focuser explore deep feeling states within a safe setting. Often times we talk our stories out over and over again only to find we have not experienced relief and might be left feeling like there is something more that is inaccessible. Talking can only get us so far. Our experiences are held within the body and directly observed as felt sense. When we start with the soma, the body, rather than the thinking brain, we are able to tap into our internal wisdom and become allies with the parts of ourselves that have remained hidden and allow them to be released and resolve.
